April 18, 2018 – Youth In Service Event

Youth In Service Guidelines & Forms

On Wednesday, April 18th, Birmingham Youth Assistance and the Birmingham Optimists will host our 8th Annual Youth in Service Appreciation event honoring area students nominated for their outstanding volunteer service. This event is an opportunity to honor our young citizens who give of their time and talents to serving this community. In particular, we would like to recognize students who have performed exceptional service to others despite having to overcome significant challenges or hardships in their lives.

If you wish to nominate a young person, please review the guidelines to determine whether his or her service to the community fits the criteria. You may nominate more than one person. Please fill out the nomination form. Each youth you nominate is asked to complete a short three-question form to accompany your nomination and to provide a photo of him/herself.

When completing your form, please include factors that might differentiate your nominee from others. This will help our committee select a particularly outstanding high school nominee to receive the Jane Parker Ward Award scholarship. The more detail included in your nomination, the better.

We recognize that making a nomination is time-consuming. However, please remember that, without your input, a deserving young person may be overlooked. We believe a little recognition can make a big difference. Your cooperation is essential to the success of this program.

The Youth in Service review committee requires this information by March 9th 2018. Please get the nomination forms to us as soon as possible. If you need any further information, please call the Birmingham Youth Assistance office at (248) 203-4300.

We at Birmingham Youth Assistance and the Birmingham Optimists appreciate your time and support.

April 26, 2017 – Youth In Service Event

Congratulations to our 2017 Youth in Service Honorees!

BYA and the Optimists co-host this event. We solicit and receive nominations from counselors, teachers, administrators, community school organizers and religious leaders. They help us identify the youth they feel have made a substantial contribution to our community. Family members, school administrators, local, county and state government officials, and members of Oakland County and Birmingham Youth Assistance, and the Birmingham Optimists, were among those celebrating the incredible work and unselfish hours of time given by the honorees.
